How Do You Write Yours?

Over the weekend I purchase a lovely little radio for my writing space, it was £9.00 from Tesco, I love it! It’s simple with a really good sound.  Mr A couldn’t help pointing out that it’s actually much better than the one I got for my birthday a couple of years ago. A lovely modern triangular one with a terrible reception and a price tag ten times the amount of the Tesco one! It lasted just over a year before breaking.

I thought it’d be nice to have a bit of music playing in the back ground whilst I write, maybe inspiring even as, I don’t know about you, but I find certain songs influence my characters especially my main female character who loves music!

However I’ve discovered I can’t write with it on, I keep listening instead of writing. So the radio’s been moved to the kitchen and silence (if I’m lucky) has been restored to my writing area.

What’s your ideal background noise? Silence, music or are you one of those wonderful people who can work though anything?

  1. I don’t mind the relaxing type of music, meditation kind, but like you, I prefer quietness. Where I sit, the birds are tweeting, and there’s car sounds in the background and a train or two. I’m used to those sounds, though so that’s quiet to me.

  2. That looks kind of cute, Anne! I love background music and play a CD relevant to the type of writing I’m doing. At other times, I play more modern music that inspires me!
