In last Thursdays Did You Know post, https://thebusyteapot.com/2013/09/26/did-you-know-7/ my favorite J R R Tolkien fact was number eight.
The idea for the Hobbit’s first line came to Tolkien when he was working at Oxford University. He was marking exam papers when he came across one that was blank the line “In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit,” popped into his head so he quickly jotted it down!
I loved the image of Tolkien quickly having to jot an idea down before he forgot it.
You do have to jot them down as well. I’ve tried waiting until later, especially when it’s in the middle of the night or when your somewhere important like a meeting, but it doesn’t usually work and it can be so frustrating trying to remember when you know it was a great idea .
The most unusual thing I’ve ever jotted an idea on is a napkin, it did feel a little silly at the time and I’m sure Mr A was wondering why on earth I couldn’t wait until we got home!
What about you ? Whats the most unusual thing you’ve ever jotted an idea down on?
